You will probably have seen on our Instagram accounts that we did some coat making this year and made some fabulous Belted Coats earlier this year. They are a simple design, as coats go, with a lovely large shawl collar and an asymmetric wrap front. The beauty of the design is that can either be worn with a belt or left open at the front for a more casual look.
Rachel made hers in her favourite colour – Mustard! She chose a fantastic Boiled Wool from Myfabrics and it comes in lots of different colours. Her fabric is really soft and bouncy and it makes a fantastic coat. For her lining, she chose a complimentary cotton fabric with a geometric mustard design.
Nikki made hers in a melton wool from Fabworks. She chose a lovely dark grey with large wine coloured windowpanes. It has the typical felted overcoat handle and feel, but it is still stable, super cosy and warm. For her lining, she decided to go a little bit wild and added some kissing puffin cotton from Doughtys.
Coat Making Workshop
So we then ran a Weekend Workshop in September with 7 wonderful ladies keen to make their own winter coat. You can check out our video all about the workshop here.
As you can see, we had a fantastic array of wonderful fabrics and every coat turned out beautifully! It was such a fun weekend at the Bristol Textile Quarter, we had all the space we needed to get our cutting done and to make coats. We had an endless supply of tea and some music playing to keep everyone dancing while they sewed.
