Replacing The Cutter

HI there,
Very well explained, Could you confirm whether the stitch fingers on the plate should both be the same length please?

Hi, on our models they do appear to be the same length. This may vary from different brands, but if they do not appear the same I would take off the needle plate to get a closer look and make sure neither were bent or snapped. Hope that helps.

The stitch fingers on my Janome 6234 are different lengths. I thought I had damaged it and broken one finger so I bought a new stitch plate only to find it was the same and there was nothing wrong with it in the first place! Now I have a spare.

I had terrible difficulty with changing the lower knife. I needed three hands so that I could hold it in place whilst screwing it in! I managed it in the end but it was tricky. I’m glad to hear that it doesn’t need to be changed very often! The reason I had to change both the upper and lower knife was because I was using pins. Concentrating hard to make sure I took them out in time. Then I was distracted and a loud clunk! I had left the pin in. I damaged both knives and had to send off for a new bottom one. It was a new machine as well and I wanted to get going with it. Learning curve! I only use clips now or, if clips won’t hold, pins well out of the way of the stitching!
